He needs to be on an oral antibiotic since the infection is deep and goes beyond the original injury. These types of wounds are very difficult to treat and can take months to heal.
He should have an Epsom salt soak each day for the next few days if you can find time. Use Betadine or another antiseptic wash in the soak water. along with the Epsom salts. Don't try to remove the yellow fatty stuff, only stuff that will easily scrape out.
After soaking, dry off and pack it with antibiotic ointment and place a non-stick gauze pad over it and bandage with Vetrap, ending the strip behind the hock so he can't nibble it loose. If he needs a bath/swim, let him do it before you bandage the leg. Reapply the ointment if some gets washed off.
