Happy February! My 10 month old duck hen seems happy and healthy BUT... she stopped laying in Nov! Thought it was the cold, then found she is waddling around a little wider with an egg shape hanging between legs. She also may have had the paper thin eggs I found twice then no more? There are 3 girls and 2 drakes, so not sure who laid them?. Is she ok like this? Seems to be other than no laying? ... PS GO BIRDS🏈

Seeing the pictures, check if the lump is hard. If so, she is likely egg bound. However, since it began in November, it is probably something different. My hen had also experienced something similar but she turned out just fine. She stopped laying in November when it started getting cold but started again this week. Perhaps if it is still cold in your area, this could be impacting her egg laying?

Thanks for your thoughts, she wouldn't let me near without netting her. Haven't yet but glad yours is doing well🦆

She needs calcium.
What kind of food do you give them?
Do you also supply a calcium supplement?
You mentioned thin shell eggs
Then she stopped laying which is normal for the winter
And now it sounds like she is egg bound possibly
It won’t hurt to treat her for egg bound, even if that’s not what it is
You can put her in a tub of lukewarm water and let her soak
Give her either a human “calcium citrate with D3 “ tablet
Or even better get a bottle of calcium gluconate, and give her one ML twice the first day then once a day until either an egg passes or after a week you can stop. Or one tablet of the calcium citrate with d3 per day

Hey may I add just noticed you said 2 drakes 3 hens - you need more hens or less drakes- for the hens safety it’s recommended to have at least 4 hens for each Drake.
You might get by with adding : 3 more hens.
This one girl might be getting overmated, so
If you are able to , separate the Drakes from the hens for now.

Huh. I have a 1:1 pair but my drake had niacin deficiency as a duckling so it is hard for him to mate even in water. Does this mean my ratio is alright? so far I have not gotten any fertile eggs either so I am guessing the drake does not mate too much. Also, the two seem pretty respectful to each other as I often do not see mating at all.

Keep an eye on the girl , her neck feathers, her eyes, if she starts limping. That one good thing is there’s only one Drake so there can’t be any “ ganging up “on her. A lot of females especially in the wild get killed that way.

er limped before and her neck feathers are soft and fluffy. No mating here.

I’m looking again at these pictures and I do see the lump but is she acting normal or is she laying down off by herself and pumping her tail up and down like she’s trying to lay an egg because if she’s running around and acting normal she’s probably not egg bound. Being egg bound can kill in a matter of days. Some of my ducks have a low hanging belly like that, but it’s not a hard lump.
