Duck with swollen joints

I was planning to msg you! I started her on the adequan. She just had the shot a couple days ago and will get it weekly for a month then once a month. She stopped eating her worms so I’m putting Bs on her food without water and she eats most of it in the morning then I add a little water and the yeast. She gets most of it down. It’s weird she went through a stage of not being able to repel water and then she was able to and a few days ago she can’t now and is just drenched and not drying off good. She gets cold in there and I have only been having her swim once a day and early enough to dry. I am putting castor oil on her joints at night. I made some wraps but she got them off. Now I use Saran Wrap and a hair band in the beginning then I take it off before bed. It was a pain cause she would kick more than I felt I was helping her so I just put it on and don’t cover it so not too much fuss. She is able to walk a little at least. Better than before. She did over due it one day and her joints are more swollen from that. I had her door open and she has not been able to walk out it for quite some time. I turned around to grab something and turn back and Clyde is taking her to the chickens dish a ways a way for breakfast! She walked really good but it was too much…
I am still trying to figure out the Meloxicam powder that is for my horse. I would like to use it on her if I can figure out a proper dose. Ugh I think we talked about it before or some dosing of some sort😂
How are yours doing? Try anything new on them? It really is exhausting..I keep trying to come up with something else that will help! I hope you have good news:)

Wow I’m so happy she’s improving! All 3 of my old lady white ducks (my six-year-old Pekin and my two 9- year-old white layers) have also been improving gradually.
I love your castor oil wrap idea!
I have copied an article from the majestic waterfowl sanctuary - about wetfeather and how to check/care for her oil gland. I’m pasting them below, but I’m having trouble getting them in the correct order. I trust you can figure it out.
It was 1.5 mg of meloxicam powder that I gave once a day to my 6 pound duck.
I have human meloxicam 15 mg capsules that I open and separate into five piles of 3mg each then I take one pile and add two ML of water and I give her half of that one day and half the next. But I’ve stopped giving that now because she seems not to need it. I’m just continuing to Bcomplex for now.

I have human meloxicam 150 mg capsules that I open and separate into five piles of 30 mg each then I take one pile and add two ML of water and I give her half of that one day and half the next. But I’ve stopped giving that now because she seems not to need it. I’m just continuing to Bcomplex for now.
You are just a wealth of info!! Thank you! That is great you haven’t had to use the meloxicam! I will attach a pic of my meloxicam.
I ordered the vitamins that the majestic recommended just incase. I checked her gland and I felt a little oil there. Tomorrow I am going to massage the area. I ordered her the splash pool today too so then maybe she can preen and get the gland working. I think the splash pool will be good for one of my geese who is a little gimpy. Not like Bonnie. I will put the link to the pool. They show its durable, pics of dogs tortoise etc. I saw it somewhere with ducks in it so I thought it should hold up!
Link is below
Thank you for your help! I will let you know how pool works!

Hi Jenbirdee
I just took in some poultry that were going to get killed. In the group is 4 ducks, 3 Pekin all gimpy, 1 female is the worse, not as bad as Bonnie was but struggling. The male is not as bad but still gimpy and the last little female is bling with slight gimp. Then a little mallard who is healthy and acts as the seeing eye dog for the blind one. They are terrified of me. I am not able to hand feed like Bonnie. I am putting B complex, nutritional yeast, those capsules I think called chrondonon that majestic waterfowl said and I got some niacin capsules to that I open up and put in there. They are eating it but obviously I have no idea how much they are getting in. Today the female in the worse shape got herself wedged in between something so I picked her up and I gave her an injection of B complex to guarantee she got a dose in for sure. They are housed with 4 hens and a roo that have a coop on side of my property with access to front also. It’s a big area. This afternoon they made it around to the front it was a big trek. The one was struggling. I tried to help her but scared her so I decided I needed tonight to give her some carprofen and the other two a shot. When they got in coop and I came in they were scared. I could not get the carprofen pill down her she kept spitting it out. I should have had a back up banamine injection handy but I didn’t think of it. They were to scared I didn’t get the male a shot.
Do you have any ideas on what I could do to make sure I am getting more in them or keep doing this? I would love to get carprofen or really the meloxicam but I never figured out the dose. I can’t scare them as I think it does more damage than good when they are scrambling to get away. Ugh I need help I feel terrible and want to get some pain meds in them. They are using Bonnie’s splash pad and I may need to order another one for her. I’ve been adding hot water to get her pool a little warmer. She still has her wet feathers:(

Wow! I did not see your post until today. I am so sorry. How are they doing?
Before I say anything else, let me tell you I had to edit my post above about meloxicam where I said my pills were 150 mg they are not. They are 15 mg. And I have since discovered more information about dosage for Ducks. I have the ultimate pet duck guidebook written by Kimberly Link. She is the founder and president of majestic Waterfowl sanctuary..
There is a medication chart in the book and it says this about meloxicam
EC00500F-F664-4334-BCA7-AF58EA48D6FB.jpeg

And then it says one or two times a day.
That is amazing you rescued all those pekins -What a wonderful person you are to take them all in

1/32 of a tsp of that meloxicam powder that you have for horses should be a proper dose for a 6 pound duck according to the math I’m trying to do

Here’s how I figured it
A 6 pound duck is 2.72 kg
@ 2-4mg per kg
(averaged to 3 mg per kg)
The duck gets 8.16 mg in a dose

Your product says it’s 275 mg per cc (tsp)
275 /8.16 =33.701
I have a measuring spoon set that has tiny measuring spoons. One of them is 1/32 of a teaspoon that would suffice to be a reasonable dose for a 6 pound duck.
