Hello! I have a large outdoor aviary for my 12 pigeons. I spend a lot of time every day just sitting and hanging out with them. I have just adopted 8 ducklings that are 5 weeks old. I'm wondering if they can hang out in the aviary too? I do not let my pigeons out, so I'm not worried so much about passing diseases around. The aviary would only be daytime, temporary confinement for the ducklings while they are acclimating. When the ducks are old enough and trained to come when called, they will be housed in their own duck yard. My other reason for thinking of this is because of my dogs. They are all really good with the pigeons. The dogs understand they are mine and ignore them!) So I'm hoping... putting the ducklings in with MY pigeons will help teach the dogs the ducks are mine too!

Does anyone else house these two breeds together? Any comments, advice, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No problems I had ducks pigeons and ringnecked pheasant all housed in the same area.

The ringnecked pheasants grew up thinking the pigeons were parental units otherwise I would not recommend that combination.

Thank you, Hokum Coco for the reply. I think I am going to give it a shot! My plan...I think is, to place the ducklings in a cage on the floor. After everyone relaxes again, then let 4 out at a time. If that goes well, then let the other 4 out. The pigeons have all had their bath and are sunning, so it's very quiet right now. I've got my chair, water gun and crochet. Gonna be a nice afternoon....I hope! Wish us luck!

I had Nigerian dwarf goat, muscovy duck, chickens, pigeons, all together for a while with my cat and dogs, with no trouble. though the other birds would lay their eggs all around against and under the goat duck and dogs while they were relaxing, then get mad when homeade bator moved.
