Please know when ordering the Hatcheries Choice Duckling that you may receive wild flying mallards. You should also know these ducklings come from a hatchery in California regular priority mail, even though shipping is $47 dollars. It took four days for my ducklings to arrive, Meyer had given me the wrong tracking number, and one of the ducklings is a flying mallard! While they have issued me a credit for this bird, it doesn't change the fact that I am now caring for a duck much different from the rest. She will be a fourth of the size and I worry about how she will handle our winters.

I'd be upset about getting a flying mallard too - they'll get you in trouble with the game warden some places, an some places are illegal to keep without being pinioned.

Is it illegal to have flying mallards in certain places? I never knew. Mine all have their wings clipped so they won't fly off. I got them all from Meyer as well.

It says on the Meyer website that all the mallards have a back toe removed to show that they are domestic. And domestic mallards are only not allowed in Florida I believe, and SpiderAcres is in SC.
