Ducks quacking LOUDLY when I leave

Agree 100%! We live in a suburb with relatively small backyards, and I was really worried our neighbors would start seeing us as the people with the annoying ducks. Thankfully, when I've talked about our ducks with them, responses ranged from, "wait, you have DUCKS?? Can I/my kids see them?" to "You know, I thought I heard ducks, but I thought they were just flying by."
No matter what they've said, our neighbors all seem to think it's pretty cool we have ducks (chickens are far more common out here), and several neighbors stop by during their walks to see our ducks/give them special treats (they always make sure it's OK with us first).
I also always get a kick when I get odd stares from people walking/driving by when the girls are following me through the front yard. The going joke is that we've officially become too "weird" even for Portland! :lau

I would suggest that "Portland" (said with snooty disgust) has become too stuck up for you and you should move to a place with nicer people that don't hate on your pet family.

I live also in the suburbs and unfortunately where I live your required to have a permit for chickens I'm not sure on ducks. They were given to me as a gift. I don't think I will have issues with my neighbors at least I hope not. I have a gated in backyard so other then hearing the quacks they can't see into my yard. I am going to look into getting a permit I don't want to get into trouble with the town

Actually, the odd stares are usually just people who aren't used to seeing ducks following people through their yard. If possible, most people will stop and ask questions about whether they're pets, what kind of breed they are (most haven't seen Indian Runner Ducks before), and how big they'll get. I think I may have even made a few into duck converts.

But, there is a possibility we'll move elsewhere, though that has to do more with the weather than the people.

I live in San Antonio. I also live in a semi-gated community. The HOA is around, but dues are voluntary. The city of San Antonio allows residents to have up to 8 fowl (no matter which kind, within reason) without a permit. Anything over 8 is registered and a yearly permit must be obtained. So, We were like, YAY, we can have ducks. We go the ducks and things were fine until the Pekin females became foghorns. It was about that time that my husband pulled up the HOA. In the HOA it says no backyard birds. Whoops?! It says if we are breaking a law and someone complains they can take action against us. But... we aren't breaking a law. So, we got rid of the Pekin females, painfully since they were so darn sweet, and are awaiting our contact to let us know when his Muscovies are mature and he can guarantee us females to replace the ducks we gave back. If someone in our neighborhood complained and reported us, technically, they can't do anything. It isn't the first time we violated the HOA... The one neighbor who knows thinks its really cool we have them. Only our Rouen is the quacker now. Though, some days, she seems to make up for the lost Pekin females.

Yes my female runner is very loud lol especially when I walk away. I'm sure the neighbors have heard her but so far they haven't said anything yet. The lady next door is a wild life rehabilitater so I am pretty sure she wouldn't complain. The other neighbor is selling there house so I'm hoping the new neighbors don't complain. We will see I guess, right now they are 1 1/2 months old and still live in the house. I have them in a 4x4 feet pool and they seem comfortable and I let them outside everyday.
