Dumpster diving?

you've probably thought about this already, but if you are going to dumpster dive NEVER take unbagged produce. the contamination levels would be insane. bagged stuff should be fine, but you need to find out what day and time they dump things so you get it straight away. before i went dumpster diving, i would talk to the management and explain that it's for livestock and not human consumption. as others have said, that might help. if not, time to make friendly with some employees! rarely do stores bother to put produce in trash bags before it goes in the dumpster, so you might suggest that an employ fill a particular box or bag with things you can use and then you just grab that out of the trash rather than needing to shift through all the grossness.

just be prepared to answer questions when you get busted.
