The problem childTM (Colby) has started laying eggs for this season, laid 6, then hasn’t layed for 2 days. She’s not isolating, she was swimming and eating earlier. I checked on her now and she doesn’t seem to be eating she’s drinking fine, I sat outside with them for 30ish minutes and didn’t see her poop. She seems to be trying to pass something but idk. I hate to keep posting about problems, but she’s means a lot to me. I can’t take her to the vet bc it would have to be the emergency vet and I’ve already spent 3k on her, it’s just not an option. I wanted to get Calcium Gluconate for her, but tractor supply is closed and I didn’t have any on hand. Are there any other remedies I can try from the grocery store or anything? I’ll try to do a warm soak for her. I don’t feel anything hard in her abdomen but idk if I’m feeling the right area. She has access to oyster shells and the supplement I put in their water has calcium as well. Is there anything else I can do for her tonight?

You can give her calcium citrate from the grocery store. Do you know how to tube feed?
I was just looking into that, I just don’t know the doseage, she’s just under 6 pounds. I don’t know how to tube feed and she’s very sensitive to people touching her head and beak after having oral medication once before. She will not let people open her bill at all, even the vet struggled with doing it on her last exam.

Ideally you would want to give her the calcium & tube lots of water.
She’s drinking just fine, so would it be alright to just give her the calcium and make sure she keeps drinking? Should I dissolve the calcium pill or cut it with the pill cutter into pieces to give to her? I have electrolytes I can put in their water as well to keep her hydrated if that will help. I’ve seen on some threads people say to do 600mgs for the calcium pill, is that correct? I will be able to get Calcium Gluconate from Tractor Supply tomorrow, so that should also be helpful. I’m planning to soak her in some warm water after I run to the store to get the calcium pills. I have some leftover meloxicam from her last vet visit which I can give to her as well if that would be helpful. Thank you so much for the advice

I took her inside for a warm soak, gave her peas and a calcium citrate pill that was sliced into pieces bc it was large. She pooped 4x within like 15 minutes and doesn’t appear to be straining while in the warm soak, but still no egg. Her companion is getting worried, so I’m going to put her back outside and monitor her appetite and water intake. She’s been drinking a lot today. Idk what else to do at this point except wait it out and see. Like I said before I didn’t feel anything hard in her abdomen but idk if I was feeling the right area, fingers crossed we have an egg tomorrow

I do think I felt something hard on a closer check? She has a lot of fluff so maybe that’s why it felt squishy before? I can’t really tell and I’m not sure if I was feeling the correct area.

Update: she’s still eating, drinking, and acting normal as far as I’ve heard (I had to leave early in the morning, but I’ve had someone check on her) still no egg. At this point it’s been 3 days without an egg. I’m starting to wonder if this is egg binding or if maybe she stopped laying for some reason? She started laying on the 9th and gave me an egg everyday for 6 days before stopping. I feel like she wouldn’t act totally normal if she was egg bound, but I also don’t know what would make her stop. She’s been making little nests and sitting in them, but not laying any eggs. Like I said previously, I tried to feel if she had any eggs in her, but I’m not really sure where to feel or how to do it correctly. I’m going to continue giving her calcium, and I’m picking up Calcium Gluconate from Tractor Supply today to give to her instead of the calcium citrate. I’ll try giving her more warm soaks too, but I don’t know what else I can do.
