Hi everyone!

I have a 1.5 year old olive egger who consistently laid large green eggs in the nesting box up until last week. I found two of her eggs under the roosting bar with super soft shells and then nothing at all for a full week. Yesterday she laid one leathery white egg on the ground in the run. Is she sick? Her vent looks normal. She acts totally normal - is social, eats, drinks, runs around with my other two. I only have 3 backyard chickens and they all get along, though she has always been at the bottom of the pecking order. We haven’t had any run ins with a predator as far as I know. They have open access to oyster shells and my other two are laying normally. They all eat the same thing. Thank you! Kendra

I will add that they are pets who happen to also give me eggs. I don’t care that she doesn’t lay but I don’t want her to be sick.

Try giving her a calcium citrate +D3 tablet like Citracal or generic equivalent, one a day for 5 to 7 days and see if that helps. You can get it any place that sells vitamins and supplements. Just pull down on her wattles to get her to open her beak and pop it in, she can swallow it no problem.

What all and how exactly are you feeding?
The other 2 birds have good hard shells?
Where in this world do you live?

Hi! They get Purina layer feed crumbles. And then I give them a scoop of “snacks” on top of that which include a mixture of mixed seeds, mealworms, oregano, red pepper flakes, and garlic powder. They also have a flock block to snack on. I live in North Carolina in the US. The other two are laying consistently and have hard shells. Thank you!

Okay this is helpful, thank you! I ordered that and will start giving her those as soon as they arrive. Still no hard eggs from her but no more soft ones either. She also still acts like a normal happy chicken thankfully. I appreciate it!

I would cut out the snacks and remove the flock block. The extras are reducing the amount of overall nutrients they're getting from their feed. I would also provide crushed oyster shell on the side if you don't already.

I also agree with giving the calcium citrate + d3, that should get her immediate issues sorted

I have a weird egg thing too. I have 8 hens, 4 are older.. almost 4 years, the other 4 are 6 mos.
Someone is intermittently laying these long eggs? it looks like it was poured out?
It looks like it is just a long wet shell with no yolk? I have a picture but for some reason I can't post pictures.
Any idea what it could be? My girls are all acting normal and I'm getting 4-6 eggs daily and I can't pinpoint exactly who could be doing it.
I've tried posting pictures but I've been unsuccessful.

There are two ways to post pics. Use whichever device the pictures are on. Hit the "Attach files" button below the space where you type your comment. That will take you to your photos. Select the photo you want to upload and just wait for it to load. Then hit Post and it should be there. Try that and see if it works for you.

I've done that.😭 I've posted pictures before but in the last couple months I can't! When I hit "attach files" it does nothing. I've tried the other way too .. going to the little picture icon and get nothing.
Thank you
