eggs are filthy, coated with dirt and garbage. what happened?

my eggs used to be clean and now are really dirty. What did I do?

PINE CHIPS. IT SEEMS LIKE THERE WOULD HAVE TO BE WATER SOMEWHERE GENERATING THIS. THE PINE CHIPS SEEM TO KEEP IT DRY.

they could have gotten dirt on their tailfeathers while romping around. my chickens have dirt on their feet and sometimes step on the eggs when leaving the nesting boxes. when the eggs are dirty like that we keep them in an egg carton until ready to use and then we wash them really well with soap/baking soda and dry them well too

THAT MUST BE IT. THEY WERE ALWAYS SO CLEAN BEFORE NOW. SO USE SOAP AND BAKING SODA? TODAY SOME EGGS HAD THE GRIME ON SO THICK I SOAKED THEM.

But to finish my thought - as @500Chickens says, I store the dirty eggs in the fridge until I'm ready to prep them for sale or to use. I wash mine with a quick dip in a sink of warm water with Dawn dish soap and a drop of bleach, then a quick rinse in running warm water - they are never soaked. If necessary, they may get a quick wipe with a paper towel. Eggs must be refrigerated after being washed.
