Electric Fence Weed Control

Then I would do as Kurtis suggested and kill the grass around the perimeter.

When we put up the electric fence for our goats we ran 1/2 mile of wire. We used the 300 mile transformer. It powers through every weed and brush that could touch it. The goats manage to keep everything off the fence pretty good in the heavy growing season.

Missprissy, yeah, I'm real curious about that recepie. I'll probably give it a whirl soon. It's pretty dry now so i have a bit of a respite, but that could change tomorrow or in a couple of months. I have always hated spraying chemicals willie nillie. I just about chased the last chemlawn guy off of our property with a stick when we still lived in town. He was not amused, but then again niether was I.

The best ones for keeping grass and tall weeds down would be sheep. Now there is an all natural solution. I love our goats! They save me weeks of work every year in brush control.

I've thought about goats or sheep, and I'd love to keep enough for my AG exemption. The problem is the pasture gets wet (as in standing water) during rainy season. Goats + water = ticked off goats and goats with hoof problems. The chickens are in the "house" area so I really couldn't let goats and sheep just browse, they would kill half the stuff I'm planting. I might figure out a way yet just to keep a few. Besides I expect that the first time a goat or sheep goes after the grass by the electric fence, it would be the last time...
