Everything Asil Thread ( show off those Asil )

Indeed there are times that it is hard especially in photos, but face to face there are differences: And those differences can be seen.

Hello all
I have visited Curt. Spent a few hours at his place. Have had many phone conversations with him. And hours of emails.
Now about the Manual Reynolds Asils. The ones that I was sent seem to be a good size Asil. I would say they are around 6 pounds as cocks. And have very tight feathers. And good girth at the shanks. Very light eye and strong beaks. And none of the Asils that I have gotten from Curt H. Have the very heavy flesh on there face. Many guys say they have that type of Asil. Curt does not breed that type.
Now my older Red Asil stuff that I purchased from Curt seems to be a smaller Asil. Maybe more Atkinson or Sonatol blood in it.
Maybe one of you can remind me what four lines or families of Asils make up Curts Blacks. I know they contain the Raja the Rampuri and Thia type or Cambodian. I just can not remember.

Nick,
its fairly well accepted that Curt and Dr. D all crossed various Asils lines into their original lines as you mentioned. As Doc, mentioned their intention was to produce winning fowl which they did and much credit goes to them for it. But their are others that kept some of the lines straight or have tried to keep them as original as first seen or handled. From research, Doc would be more knowledgable on this, I understand MR kept his Shamo line, his Red Paki line and a Hyderabad line. I did read somewhere that he kept a black line of Rampur. Doc?

I have seen many versions of the MR asils. All look like strong, solid asils but many more look less like MR's original imports. I will try and post version of birds I have seen and have been told are MR asils.

I don't know about a Rampuri line. I know Curt had a good one and that most of the Rampuris you see originated out of his stock. The Hyderabad was added by Curt. MR didn't have them.

Personally, I don't know anyone that kept the MRs straight. All added something and then bred it out. Dr D. added all sorts of things. Curt only added Asil. Another that I know of that has them added Thai.

It was these Hyderbad/MR's that I have been told were the ones that made it over to PR, via Curt. I am sure many have Curts Ramps. I think their is a regional influence that comes into play. As, many Rampuri's in California, come from way of Dr. Bixler, Mexico, old Darby and Greene (the first name escapes me) from Louisiana.

This is my Spangled Reeza Roo he has been breeding with the hens in the back for the last two seasons and i have got a variety of different colours of hens and Roos from him..was wondering if i put him with the white Reeza hen below what difference in colours i can expect from the offspring..

Below the stags and Pullets from the brown hens

Looking forward to hearing from the Experts

Hello all
It is my understanding that some Grey colored Raja Merghs are the birds or Asils. That you are talking about. But a few people. Or just one. Says he got them directly from Andy Hightower. I know for a fact that Curt sent many Asils to said person.
Now if they are the Hyderbad/MR crosses. I do not know. As they have the fleshey face. Like the Rajas. And I have been around Chickens for 35you years now. And I really do not know the color or colors that the Rajas would come.
S D Pualo you are correct. Alot of people got the crosses from Dr D. And now they have set those as families or have bred them together and made a strain.
I will try to post pictures of what I have. As I have the Boles Asils.
And well as the other lines that I mentioned from Curt.
Thanks.....Nick

I have some pretty good background on the PR birds, via one of the old ARMPR members. I have an old line of PR Rajahs, I call the Maharajah Murghs, a name that was given to them by an Indian friend. They are an old line from Andy's neighbor in PR...El Gordo. I like them best as they breed consistently in form and function.

Anyway, there is a lot of folks selling the PR Asils like HotWheels. As you probably know they are mostly good birds for their specific venue. There make up is a blend, mix, what ever you want to call it, of various Reza Asil lines. That's why when you breed two PR birds together from the same breeder, out of the same clutch.....its like opening a box of chocolates. You get blacks, reds, whites, greys, etc. Most have Rampuri blood too.

Yes, the greys back in the day as I understood it were the ones to have, as they "showed" old Col. Andy blood. (Have you been told, by this person how the grey came to be?) But today, there has been importation of South American bloodlines, via Peru, Argentina , etc. Some say, Echtverrey , Bruno, Elias, Clara bloodline, etc. Anyway, today many of the better birds have some Mc's bloodline. Some of Mc's best Asil are what he calls his California line and Mexican line Blacks. Both, came by way of California and in my observation, via photos and video, share a lot of the same blood! Personally, if I ever did I would only buy from 3 people and one of them is not Puerto Rican. IMO, once they leave the island most are not selected the same way and are just a label.

I will try and post up, here or the other thread, photos of the various other Asils with labels.

Boles Asils from Dr. Dave? I would be interested in seeing them. If you have a chance get a close up of their shanks for me. Thanks
