I just took in a bantam hen. The post stated she thought she had Wry Neck. When I got there its actually seems to be an eye issue. Her eye had a huge glob of gunk in it.

I cleaned out the gunk in it. It was black, not yellow so not sure if its an infection or if this could be just an injury, I was told she was the bottom of the pecking order and was picked on heavily. She does have a small abrasion on her other side of her face.

The lower eye lid looks a little funny but might just be irritated from the gunk in it. I see no visible injury to it, and the actual eye ball isnt cloudy.

I can not get Terramycin otc in RI or MA. And we have no local emergency chicken vet that I have found yet. But found some available at Jedd's so will order it but takes a week to come in.

Was thinking of using some Vetericyn on it, but unsure and looking for suggestions.

Thanks as always for your helpful suggestions and feedback!

Can you post photos?

It's good you cleaned the eye out. You can use Original Neosporin in the eye if you aren't able to get Terracycin.
Continue to clean the eye with saline and apply your ointment at least once daily.

I'd also keep the newbie separated from existing birds for several weeks for observation. Hopefully the eye problem is from injury (sounds like it) instead of respiratory illness. Give her a good check over for lice and mites too.

If you do worry about Wry Neck, you could start giving vitamin therapy for a few weeks. I don't think it would hurt even if Wry Neck is not the problem. 400IU Vitamin E along with 1/4tablet B-Complex is the standard vitamin treatment for Wry Neck. Give her a little egg daily to help with the uptake of E.

Cleaned the new gunk that formed while i was gone. You can see it in this picture. I dont believe i missed it the first time i cleaned it.
