Why do chickens have to molt in the fall?? The fall background is great for pics right now but the birds themselves are not looking good. Anyone else in this same boat with me?

Luckily when the leaves had just fallen only two of my birds were molting, so I still had three to photograph. The background for fall photos is gone up here now, it's just cold, wet, gray, brown, and dead outside. :/
