Falling Down Heights, my daily life

And another gone. And it was one of the stronger ones too.

I don't know if there'll be any left by morning.

Undecided what to do with the doe. Breed her again and give her one more chance but risk losing the whole litter again, or cut my losses and toss her in the freezer...

Its definitely a risk breeding her again, I'd have some sort of back up plan for nursing the babies if you do.

How many times have you bred her?
Just the once. BUT, I caught her nursing the two remaining kits this morning! Yeah, two. Another died overnight. :(

She seemed to understand now, even jumped into the nest box when I came to feed them this morning. I'm just glad she was feeding them herself before that. Gave her scritches.

I only have two breeding does right now, so even if I bred them both, two litters would be too much for just one. I'll probably hold off until Spring to breed her again since it's getting cold around here and I'm not set up for winter breeding.

We gave our first time does 3 chances when we bred rabbits. Occasionally we would end up grafting kits (the strongest first, up until the foster mama had as many total as she could feed at once)

By Spring I should have four does, since I got two last month.

She sees me coming and jumps in the nesting box, lol! Well, she's smart at least. And stopped being aggressive with me.

Worried about tonight. It's going down to Way Too Cold For The Season. I tossed most of the bedding that had the rabbit fur in it because it was soiled, so they just have straw.

Ugh, why am I still up? Gotta be on the road by 6 am. Van is already packed with 11 ducks and one OEGB cockerel. Going to try to grab two rabbits before I go. Put out food for all the birds before coming in so all I have to do in the morning is release them from the coops. Only the rabbits will need to be fed.

Small livestock sale in a town about an hour away. Hope I manage to sell everything.
