Falling Down Heights, my daily life

Okay, candled the eggs again and the results are the same: 7 OEGB developing. That is it. Thinking only one of the hens is being mated and since one is a Splash and the other is Lemon Blue, and the male is Lemon Blue, if I get any black babies I will know who the mom is. The other eggs may be too old.

Took all the infertile ones out and they will be dog food.

Did a *bit* of work, mostly inside. Cleaned out (finally) the crate I was using for the geese at night and moved Rudy the Lone Chick in there, then cleaned out *her* pen and brought in Nutmeg, the bunny that broke through the wires to go canoodle with the buck in the next cage over in case she got knocked up (would be due by Monday).

Not much done today.

Made a bunny nesting box and bred the mini rex doe to the rex buck. She is a broken lilac tort (I think) and he's a black otter, with unknown recessives. I know some would advise against breeding a regular rex to a mini, but his line tends to be smaller.

I will also be breeding him to regular furred large rabbits then breeding back to get larger rex furred rabbits; not showing them just breeding for fur type as well as meat.

Oh and spent several hours studying rabbit colour genetics lol!

Since I cannot help myself, I candled again this morning! :lau

All 7 are still doing well and I got to watch little squirmy embryos! I also adjusted the days on the incubator to 2 less since OEGB usually hatch earlier.

Should be going out tomorrow to run errands with my friend. I hope he decides to get my Christmas present early! I asked for one of those diesel mini-furnaces (the type used for garages) that exhausts to the outside. Very fuel efficient and should keep the trailer nice and toasty without electricity.

That's a perfect gift for you Wind, you need heat up there! ❤️

Nutmeg still hasn't had babies so she'll be going back outside. I had my suspicions that buck wasn't fertile. Kinda sad, I liked him and he was very friendly and was a lovely colour.

I'll use that pen that she's in right now for chicks if they hatch.

Chilly morning today at -9c; temperature inside is a toasty 13c *insert sarcasm*. Bucket brigade watering of animals is in full swing.

I must admit, having all the rabbits and other cages right next to the trailer is nice and convenient. I am certain I will appreciate it even more when it gets down to -20.
