Feeding Wild Birds

The Weaver bird has taken his nest building from the bird feeder to about two feet away, still on the same thorn tree the bird feeder is hanging from...

I think the Weaver bird is a juvenile that is practicing nest building; and I doubt he will finish building this nest, especially if he is too young to attract a mate yet. An expert adult male can finish a water-tight nest in as little as two days, but most males take about seven days; and if the female mate, upon inspection, does not like the job he has done, she will pull the nest apart, so the male builds several nests before they settle down to brooding eggs.

I can hear Weaver birds trilling outside now, but when I look out the window, at the nest building site, I do not see any nest building activity.

We had a red tailed hawk land on top of our flag pole. Would have made a beautiful photo, but I couldn't get my phone on camera fast enough. Must not have been a comfy spot for her.

Chickens have stayed in the coop a lot lately. I thought it was because of the cold, but it may be because this hawk is scaring them.

Unique picture. Too bad the head doesn't show better. Your picture reminds me of the other morning when I saw a small hawk high in a tree waiting for my pigeons to come out of the loft. I got the gun out but was sure to miss. The hawk was too far away for a good shot but I did scare him away.

Feeding wild birds-I just assume that some of my feed is going to be taken by the wild birds. I'd rather enjoy watching them, especially the Cardinals. I keep waiting for the day when my pigeons bring home wild friends.
