I don't have a rooster at home, but someone I know does. And I want to breed one of my hen with that rooster, she is the sweetest chicken I've ever had and would like some of her offsprings if something ends up happening to her. But the problem is, she is also laying unfertilized eggs, so how do I tell which ones will be fertilized? How many days does it take for a hen to lay a fertilized egg after breeding? Also, how many times does a hen have to breed to get fertilized eggs?

The only way you can tell if it is fertilized is by opening up the egg and seeing the fertile dot or by putting eggs into the incubator and discarding the undeveloping ones.

It takes about two weeks after mating for eggs to become fertile.

And I believe she just has to be mated once for fertility, but I could be wrong on that.

2-3 days, if mating is successful. Might only take once....but might take days for birds to 'get together'.

How do you propose to make this happen?
Putting 2 'stranger' bird together could be disastrous.
Keep in mind your 'sweet' birds offspring may not have her demeanor,
the sires genes are part of the equation.
