About me...
I have had some chickens around off and on throughout my life. When I was growing up in Hawaii, I began with a few Bantams for a few years. I loved them, and they had such cute little eggs. Then, 10 years later, I had some early Araucanas (blue, green, & pink eggs) and a couple of Rhode Island Reds, White Leghorns, and Barred Rock chickens.
I have 20 chickens now, in 2 separate flocks with their own rooster in their own coop and run, and another smaller setup that is a nursery/infirmary.
I have Turken chickens now that were all started by my neighbor's wild Turken/Game cross hen, who kept flying into my yard a few years ago to have her nest and babies in. The 3rd time she stayed, and I have also picked up some full Turkens from 2 hatcheries. I also have a couple of Easter Eggers, an Olive Egger, and a Premium Blue.
I have chickens because they are soothing, great entertainment, friendly, and funny as heck. I also get many different types of pretty eggs that we eat and share with our neighbors, who all look forward to them.
Not a hobby, but I am taking college courses to enjoy and advance myself. I am retired from the newspaper business.
I used to have horses for years. I also have 2 dogs, a big Malamute-lobo mix and a Huskey, and the neighbor's cats that come over to hunt mice and gophers.
I think I found BYC on FB and YouTube in late 2023 as I was trying to chase down information to help the animals.
