Thanks! I've asked around for chicks on FB but no luck, looking like they will be a loner... I'm in the UK (Somerset) and it's a horrible wet, rainy autumn day with the remnants of ex-hurricane Nigel so I doubt there's many breeders still selling!
Chick and hen are hunkered down in the nest box, I'm not moving them out yet until the weather settles so she is still sat on the eggs.
Both are eating and drinking in the nest box now (had to clean up a smelly poop from the hen too!) so I'm not worried
I only have two hens (unfortunately the flock has been diminishing), so I was hoping to get a few more chicks to replenish... I maybe made a mistake of only starting with 6 eggs - I didn't want to be too ambitious for my first time! I'm confident that if the chick turns out to be a pullet that she will integrate easily, with the hen who mothered her and my other hen who is very docile and non-dominant
