I love wood heat. The work to get the wood....not so much. (time in the woods is nice, though).

This house was designed with the wood in mind. It had a brick wood bin built into it next to the stove....and an exterior hatch to fill it from so no tracking across the house to pack it in. Do still need to fill the wood bin as part of winter prep....and the kindling stash (from the brush pile from the dead trees).

Not to worry he was scratching his head and then tucked his hoof up to warm up 😊

The bumble black scab has not come off yet? I've soaked & ointment vetwrapped daily till the bumble scab comes off, then soak & wrap for a few more days for the healing scab to form till that scab comes off too. Leaving a small bumble can eventually form larger. But I suppose we all treat bumble differently? Maybe I'm overly solicitous but I like to totally remove an easy bumble early.
She was already receiving treatment from her old owner. A new chicken friend instructed me to wrap it for a couple days and then try getting the scab off to make sure it didn't have more pus after a few days.
It was clean inside so she got plain triple antibiotic, banixx, and a new wrapping with gauze. I will re wrap in two days and so on until it looks like the scab is healing.

My dad uses a wood boiler so we're already splitting and stacking. His back is bad though, hubby wants them to switch to pellets or propane. I told him that it's very likely we'll be walking next door to fill the stove on bad days for them.
Cleaned both coops, Ash got in the way and ended up covered in poopy woodchips that I was tossing out of the door. Oops.
I would like to put a propane insert in my woodstove. Might look into the cost, it would be nice to use the stove.

Those pellet bbqs are a great idea and easy for people who are on in age. My friends have them, and even my church has one.
I got one for one of the project I worked on, it was a Traeger smoker bbq, used pellets, it was awesome.

We raffled it off at project end, I sold tickets and then to up the stakes my boss went and bought a brand new one and when we told everyone we sold even more tickets!

Over $9,000 - and the company matched dollar for dollar, we donated the money to the local childrens’ activities at the public library. Almost $20,000 when all was said and done😊♥️

This little monkey is such a little turkey, and so adorable.

I don't mind snap traps but I hate the glue ones. They just sit there and can't move. some resort to eating off their legs to try and escape. I can't just sit by while that happens. Am I a bit sensitive? maybe. But mice are just so intelligent I can't imagine what they are thinking
Nope

It’s a cruel way to die. Snap trap or those electric zap traps are the beat and most humane way to kill if one cannot use poison.

In the house I use poison, in the barn it’s the snap traps and zap trap. I can only put them out when the chickens are safely in bed though.
