Story of our raising and hatching own to process of mixed flock

I have penned some in the past that first breeding season, and released them in late fall with good luck. They were about 8-18 months. Most turned out to be great roosters.

Some seem to need to mature more before being allowed to mingle. Most worked out. I always try to give them all a chance.

That teenage phase can be rough on them as hormones surge for the first time. So if they misbehave they would go back in the pen for another month or two. As long as they can interact through a fence they seem to still learn, and are still a part of the flock.

Have you ever re-released cockerel(he'll be a year in Aug) when you have a broody on eggs? He's been in time out for 5-6 weeks now I believe. And have broody set to hatch end of this week, don't think I've ever come across this scenario. Thanks

I have multiple roosters, and many hens, broody ones too. I've never seen a rooster mess with a broody hen, so I would assume it would be okay. I've had roosters help raise chicks, and others ignore or peck at them, but never saw a rooster go after chicks. Just other hens.

That's what I've always read on here too, I was just curious because she's so close to hatching. And while I know he has some time before he's a year old was wavering on letting him rejoin. He was doing really well after we released him after penning when we had the three, down to just him. They are his offspring too, which is neat.

I can always sit and watch and recaged if need be.
