Don’t be too impressed by the log splitting. I use a metal wedge and a sledgehammer not an axe.
So my aim is not as crucial because I just have to hit the top of the wedge.
It is good exercise and massively satisfying!
That's how I split wood too. We have a splitting axe....the head looks like a wedge with an extra wide blade edge, but I can't get it to bite deep enough to actually split the log. The wedge, on the other hand, tap, tap, tap...get it slightly anchored and then full swing...until the top of the wedge is below the top of the log...

I have one. I got it about two years ago as I've always liked being under a pile of quilts. I thought I'd try one to see if that could lessen the number of blankets on my side of the bed. It works!

A weighted blanket, when given by choice (not everybody likes the feeling of being even lightly restrained), mimics a hug and increases the production of oxytocin (a feel good hormone), and decreases the production of cortisol (a stress hormone). As an added bonus, it can help relieve symtoms of certain sleep disorders and illness like fibromyalgia and restless leg syndrome!

I had no idea it worked for all this stuff, but I can say I do sleep well! 💤

I have a mechanical splitter - still it too is satisfying. But I do know how to split wood the old fashioned way. It’s all about technique and a bit of good aim. Also having dry wood helps.

Splitting hairs tax

I think her swelling is down a bit from yesterday - it was moving over her eye, and that seems reduced today.

I’ll take daily photos now so I can see for sure.

Left side still good

Have you discovered the star shaped wedge? It is a game changer!
First off the point is even easier to get started than the edge of a normal splitting wedge.
And then, it splits the log into 3 or 4 pieces in one go.
Miracle!

Yes, that method was controversial, for good reason. While a shock to the system such as cold water can help sort of "reset" the autonomous nervous system when in fight, flight, or flee mode (this is why splashing cold water on your face during an anxiety attack can help you calm down), having that done to you without consent can be extremely terrifying, and damaging, especially when you're already in panic mode. Forced sedation isn't any better, though.

🤣 Aww, no way. They're just as important to the ecosystem as any other (native) animal and it's not their fault humans plant themselves in the middle of their habitats. It's on me to be more vigilant and careful!

Though I do wonder what barbecued hawk would taste like... LOL!

Tax, we did it!

Oh wow now that’s awesome! Thanks for sharing, I will have to see if they have at Home Depot here.

My chooks hate me today…. I made them stay inside - I consoled them with a cabbage, they are deciding in their hen-side tribunal whether or not to forgive me for locking them in.
