Sounds like one or more of your ladies (rock garden/Dakota) need to kick him a couple of times. Hector turned into a gentlerooster after one go round. I'm not sure if Whiskey witnessed and learned or received the same treatment without witnesses.
Aero whips his butt all the time. Witnesses or no witnesses

Hey everyone

I miss a day and a half and get behind.

Poppet is crazy. She has finally decided snow or not she is done staying in the coop with Turkey. They are not spending their time in the stalls either, they are staying in the area between the cover stalls and the coop. Poor little Turkey. Her momma decides it is time to show her the big world when there is still spots of snow taller then she is. They are doing well though and she is keeping Turkey warm. I am officially sick of the weather though now. We had 1 day that got semi warm and did a partial melt before temps dropped back down and turned what was left of the snow into ice. We have another storm supposed to hit Sunday.

Rosie is all for another snow storm, she still has not returned to school. They missed all last week and this week due to weather. When they do head back she is going to be hurting as she has her days and nights totally flipped around.
Big cold front moving in Saturday night, heading down your way also.

Ugh…..

Only 6 more months till they can do this again ♥️

All I have to say for now is it's going to be -1 F on Tuesday. Yes, you read that right. Hopefully businesses close because I can only imagine the electricity going up with those heaters being on all the time... Oh, and also, this is the coldest temperature I have ever experienced.

Yep that’s chilly!

But I know what -43C is (thinking that is the same in F), and let me tell you, I was not impressed!

If it was ever that cold here I would have to put real supplemental heat on the hen house.

Tonight I moved Mrs LC into the Feedroom/Office she was being pecked by everyone not letting her roost anywhere. I am going to be keeping her in there anyways during this cold snap coming this way.

Had a little scare this week. Came home Monday from work to find Rosie making a terrible wheezing/whistle sound both inhaling and exhaling. Her mouth wasn't open so I figured it was either her lungs or she had something in her nose? Used some vetrx on her and in the coop, when I checked before i went to bed it was all quiet. Bill said she did it a bit on Tuesday again, but was fine yesterday. Whatever it was seems to have resolved. 🤷

I have a couple that do that, I don’t see them acting stressed and they were eating fine, full crop, so figured they had a stuffed up nostril.

Sadly, I know...those are the risks we take on as pet owners.
I have spent thousands of dollars on vet bills for my birds over the years. Bridge is my extra special girl and I would do the same for her. I just don’t know if it makes sense at this point. And she gets stressed when I bring her in the house, so I think a car ride away from the other birds would be pretty stressful for her. I might bring her in just for a check-up and an x-ray though.

Coop was here. Given 4 birds, 2 POL pullets (Silver being one of them), a hen and a cockerel.

Edit: lost other pullet and hen.

Built a pen in the garage for 1st chicks using chicken wire and a twin bed frame. 17 chicks....they were out growing the confinement (not the physical size) at 2 weeks. Loosed in the garage. Moved to the coop with Silver at 6 weeks. Silver in garage with them (not broody), allowed out every morning. Buster (roo in coop) allowed out every afternoon. Chicks allowed out with Silver for short periods, in gradually increasing numbers, until Silver sounded an alarm, cocked her wings out parallel to her body and ran in an arc around the chicks...who then ran for the bush. Silver took up station just outside the shelter, watching back toward the patio....where a deer walked around the corner. She demonstrated she was willing to care for the chicks, so all moved back to the coop. She promptly abandoned them to Buster and resumed avoiding his attentions by staying on the roost. Food and water got put on top of the nest boxes so she could eat in peace. I knew almost nothing about chickens then.

Sounds like you had some really smart chooks then, it helps if they can train us 😊♥️

Nope, owner has a stack of round bales. He taught me to use his tractor and I drop bales for them occasionally when they need it.
It’s always a good skill to know how to use the frontend loader on the tractor 😊

Hey how is your chickie that was loose and got wet?
