My husband, at 56, has decided to learn blacksmithing. He has two forges, anvils, etc. now. So far he's mostly done tent stakes and s-hooks...but it's a start. There's always something old to learanvil,

That's great that you are getting Pomegranates at your altitude. Pom's or I suppose any citrus or fruit tree doesn't appreciate cold/frost so you are doing very well to get fruit! We basically ignore our Pom's since they were planted as shade/hiding for hens & if there's formed fruit it's a bonus chicken treat. We are only at the 6-700 ft altitude mild climate so citrus/fruit trees thrive here without too much problem.

Ours don't have fruits, it's the ones two hundred meters below us that do. I haven't given hope that one year where we don't get a late frost, some pomegranate will pop up in our place.

But you're giving me a wicked idea-especially with those yummy pictures and that empty plate - since they are on a public trail path that's not frequented at all, and nobody picks them...maybe I could steal one for the chickens ?

ManueB ~ I understand about PC's ~ kinda the way I get sensitive about processing talk even tho it's chicken related. PC's are best for private messaging for some but I've developed a respect/tolerance for people's views & haven't asked any one to stop. If ByBOB doesn't like what any of us post he'll probably let us know

Can you explain what are PC's ? Politically correct I know, the expression made it into french language, but PC's with a plural I don't. I suppose it's related ?

To be honest, I personally also feel upset reading about chickens being culled, whether because they are males, old hens, or bad tempered...and about some other things too, like shipping live chicks, the hatchery organisation and way of selling chicks in huge bins in AG stores in Northern America. But I feel it's different since we are on a chicken forum. I can't expect to read and discuss only things I agree with about chickens, otherwise I would have to find the "semi free-ranging, no culling, broody hatching only, environmental friendly, organic feeding, goes to the vet and still makes beginner mistakes" forum ...and I would likely be it's only member and talk to myself, which I already do far too much.
Discussions about chickens can get very heated on other threads, but on this thread they are 99% of the time serene and open-minded, which I'm sure we all appreciate.
I've come to think discussions on sensitive subjects other than chickens such as politics would be best kept to the Random ramblings forum. Although in the BYC rules they explicitly advise against them.

Not so much putting on a show, like a renaissance fair, though I've done that... we're a bunch of needs recreating the middle ages.

Temperatures have suddenly dropped here. It was 4/39 this morning. The cats came back inside at dawn, instead of staying to hunt outside. Not happy I woke them up for Caturday.

We are once again seeing a lot of flying raptors, which wasn't so much the case in summer. Here Mélisse spots a very far but huge gallicus hawk.
