He's hiding in the smaller run extension after he pecked one of Morinth's kids and she beat the stuffin out of him. I put him out in the main run, he gets yelled at by the she-devil and runs to the extension. They'll figure it out in time.
The meatbirds and the newest hens keep checking on him and encouraging him to eat and drink with them so he's not all alone. He could honestly be in the bachelor group I think, they would accept him.
Ric Flair told him which girls are off limits, but otherwise seems to like him well enough. Versace is quite a bit bigger than he is so I hope that helps them get along like it did between Ric Flair and Trickster (who has himself a lovely group of sebright hens now!)
New girls Cookie and Cream, as well as Liara seem to really like him. I told him when he settles in maybe the fullsize hens will be his wives.
Will go get pictures in a bit.
Sounds like it's going pretty well all things considered. Thanks for the update. I'm really glad he and Rick Flair are getting along.

Very tired today, the wind ripped the supports off of our retractable awning in the night and scared the toddler really badly. Took a long time to settle after that. The awning is okay though, but some of my ceramic pots that I had out for fall replanting broke.
That's a little frightening!

Home and unloaded yet another load of wood. Sherlock is conked out and we're making our way through showers. Realized the axe was missing so hiked around to the assorted places hauling from....found it (means no one else has been out in that area). Also discovered that the wind blew one of the dead trees down...on top of one of the burn stacks the forest service made. Why they didn't cut ALL the dead to begin with mystifies me, but its going to make it more difficult for them to burn it in the winter.

Sherlock is trying to chew on/remove a stump. Trees grow in some of the oddest locations. These boulders are rooted deep, yet the tree next to him is close to 12 inches in diameter and roughly 100 feet tall. That doesn't spring up overnight.

My favorite feather this week

It looks huge in these photos, but is it only about 4" long
That is a LOVELY feather!

When we find particularly clean pretty feathers we stick 'em in the bands of our many hats. The feathers eventually show wear in the hat bands but then there's always another year of molt to look forward to!

Mealworms, the great equalizer. I sat out there for a half hour, scattered wormies and let the chickens do as chickens do.
Every single bird came close enough for me to get a good look at them, except for the four olive egger cockerels.

I think this is a female pure cochin. Biscuit is the name

Hubby says if this one is female her name is Hawk

Just Babbin' around

Cream is a delight. Small and adorable. She is 2 and prefers to sleep in the nestboxes.

Ric Flair said "nah boy you're bigger than me, so you're in charge. Leave me my girls and we're cool."

The size difference between Cream and Nocturne is CRAZY

This eye is half black
View attachment 3959494this eye is all gold. Partial heterochromia!

He's a tall lad
View attachment 3959498
Ric Flair seems like he would rather be a subordinate rooster to be honest, he's very mellow and passive to the boys but will step between even the larger hens if they squabble
View attachment 3959499nyx!!! And that dark cochin cross is Peregrine (if a girl)

Poor fella is a mess of pins

The more dominant Legbar cockerel. He sleeps with the hens, and Ric Flair currently follows him around.

Black beauties. Shep glows purple and Nocturne green. I looooove it.

I love being surrounded by a whole flock of birds. 🥰
It’s a silkie thing with the big tail

Looks exactly like my mountain property

Tomorrow morning maybe. 🤔. But I’m not taking my new car up that road!
We always considered it good sense to use rental cars & add their rental insurance to the contract when traveling far. A deer ran straight into a rental we had & his antlers ripped the grill apart. Next morning the rental agency picked up the damaged rental & left us a new rental no questions asked 👍.
