Awww Jiggy looks like a wonderful pup to have had around. It’s wonderful that you had cousins to grow up around, it was the same here. People don’t seem to have that same network of family these days.
TY! We were fairly isolated so farm animals were us kids' daily pals. Jiggy was an Olde Boston Bulldogge. Helen Keller had one.

Keller was given the dog by her classmates at Radcliffe College – an act of generosity that generated newspaper stories around the country. Phiz reportedly accompanied Keller to lectures at Radcliffe and would wait patiently until class was over to return home with her. (Photo 1902.)

With Phiz at their feet, Keller and her teacher/companion Anne Sullivan sit on a wooden platform in a tree near their home in Wrentham, Massachusetts. (Keller could understand what Sullivan was saying by feeling the movement of her mouth.) “My dog friends seem to understand my limitations, and always keep close beside me,” Keller wrote. “I love their affectionate ways and the eloquent wag of their tails.” (Photo circa 1903.)

The Olde Boston Bulldogge is the original Boston Bull, the breed which the Boston Terrier developed from, therefore the early history of the Olde Boston Bulldogge is the same as for the Boston Terrier. It is the original type and form of the breed once known as "The round-headed Bull and Terrier" of Boston, USA (the old type Boston Terrier). The Olde Boston Bulldogge is a separate breed from the Boston Terrier.

I refused to have the ears or tail cut on Jiggy when I picked him out of a newborn litter & the breeder honored my crying wish not to hurt the day-old puppy. As a 10-yr-old I was terribly sensitive about pain to animals! When the puppy was weaned Pop picked up Jiggy from the breeder & brought him home in his jacket pocket! Jiggy was the easiest dog I ever trained.

Sorry to hear this, but have to do what you have to.

Might I suggest othering meat chicks from Hoovers - I have nothing but the best to say about the chicks I have bought from them.

They offer a wide variety of meat birds as well as layers. This way you don’t have to risk incubating eggs.

Jenn, that made me cry. Livestock farming has its good times but taking the sad w/the happy is part of it. Shep was so gorgeous too.

Have to say those OEGB bantams I have are so adorable - they are rivaling my silkies for most adorable!

Today the pullet hopped up on my back to visit - she sometimes does that when she wants attention. Or warming up 😊 she and Georgie are just so darn cute!
All bantams are adorable ~ Silkies, OEGBs,
Pekins (Cochins), Sebrights, D'uccles, bantam Dominiques, bantam EEs, Dutch bantams, etc etc. I love'em all! I could so easily be overrun w/ chickens if I were still on a farm!!!

Do ranchers' cattle ever graze over your property? Our vacant Northern Calif mountain property has local ranchers that are allowed to graze their loose cattle in the Modoc national preserve but they graze over onto local private lands too (5K to 9,000 ft levels). But before the winter snow starts in November the owner/ranchers conduct a roundup to drive the herds to lower elevations. It's all symbiotic & friendly cuz the county is about 75% natural preserve protected from development ~ nature/wildlife is allowed to go undisturbed. It's like another world there!

Yes I am home now. The chooks were all in bed when I arrived. But I went in the coop and said hi to ever one of them. Petting each ones feet. Except for Mr. Wyandottey. He definitely doesn’t like his feet touched. So I brought him into the house tonight.
I needed an alarm cluck for tomorrow morning anyway. :D
