Son of Big Boy is doing well.

Does anyone have a coop thermometer / hygrometer recommendation? Curious about monitoring the measured temp and humidity. I'm thinking wireless - a sensor in the coop and the home unit inside that talk to eachother.
I have a super old one from Radio Shack on my garage, it still works. I had a ThermoPro setup at my old house and it worked well. AcuRite is another good brand, I think that's what my parents are using.

@Sylvester017 My Marans was the sweetest baby. She was a Midnight Majesty, half marans half barred rock.
And my two silkie cross hens ran the whole show for a long time! Stern but kind leaders they are. Liara the prarie bluebell is also a natural leader.

The farm lady I got the hens and butcher boys from and I talked for a bit last night. She loves the names we gave the hens and is happy Nocturne seems to have healed up. She told me next year I should let Nocturne and Cookie brood some chicks because they are both excellent mamas. And I'll be able to give them more eggs each!
So the "plan" is let Samara and Morinth hatch in spring, then let Cookie and Nocturne hatch in summer if they go broody.
Yes, I have noticed crossbreed mixes soften the aggressive reputation of purebreeds. But sometimes that could work in reverse. A crossbreed mix can cause a gentle reputation breed to go aggressive.

For instance, we had gentle Blue Breda hens which are a medium size bird. Then we got a Cuckoo Breda bird (Cuckoos were created in the Netherlands by crossing Breda w/ heavy Malines breed) & our Cuckoo Breda Char was 2-1/2 lbs heavier than a 5-lb Blue Breda hen & Char had the strong nature of the large Malines. Here we thought another Breda variety would have a gentle nature too but instead we got the Breda hen from hell. Char was ok w/ people but she hated other chickens ~ especially littles!

Char was a beautiful statuesque Cuckoo Breda but her girth & aggressive nature took advantage of bullying little Silkies in the flock.

Just never know at the beginning how flock dynamics will end up. Flock dynamics constantly change as birds die, get re-homed, go broody, get old, or new birds are added.

Check the FLUFF. The orps have extra fluff. (;) @RoyalChick does that work better for breed identification?)
Compared to Buckeyes too.
I could definitely go with breed identification based on fluff!
Me too!

ThermoPro has a lot of marketshare and a good rep, I'll look at AcuRite then too!
(I'd also love a better thermo/hydrometer for my leopard gecko's vivarium. The cheap ones I have aren't reliable enough)
What cheap ones have you tried? Trying to figure that out, as for instance an old ThermoPro model might be just fine for my purposes, nothing fancy, and they are pretty inexpensive now.
