I thought about not posting this. I will probably take some heat for it but I have always been transparent about my flock. I am still so mad I am shaking.

Randy is gone.

He started turning on George this last week. I have broke up 3 fights with George trying to cower and Randy flogging him. After the 2nd go around I listed him to see if I could find him a home. No takers. This evening me and dad were out cleaning the stalls. I opened up the coop to see if Poppet and Turkey wanted to come out. They were hanging around just outside the entrance and all was good, until it was not. Randy came around the side of the house and darted and grabbed Turkey and shook her like a ragdoll. Oh I lost it and came charging with the poop fork and he dropped her and ran. I think she is unharmed. No visible injuries and she was walking fine but she and Poppet were immediately put up. People, I can forgive a lot of things. I give roosters every chance to succeed. I will not tolerate any chicken trying to murder a chick. This could be why Poppet has been reluctant to bring Turkey out of the coop to explore and he has tried to do this before. I put Randy down after I locked up Poppet and Turkey.

I tried with him. He was good in many ways but there are just some lines no chicken can cross with me.

I am so sorry Rebecca, I had hoped that it was a one off him fighting George.

But you are right, a Roo picking at chicks is a no no. Better to put the boy down rather than having him passed off with someone else. You did the right thing.

Sure hope the wee little turkey is ok.

Oh so sorry.
Hope little Turkey is OK.

Just popping in to wish Everyone a Merry Christmas. It’s a wet and windy one here on the west coast. Hoping everyone is staying warm and dry, and getting in some extra treats (chooks, humans, and fur babies alike!)
Hi - so happy you popped in - hope things are going better for you - miss seeing/hearing about your menagerie!!! ❤️ ❤️

I am sorry to hear he did this. I will say - he was a good rooster for the flock during their transition - so maybe there was a reason he came into your life - and maybe his purpose was done, so he crossed a line to help you relieve him of his duties. I know it is never easy to have to do that - but I think you did what was right.:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

One parent: golden cochin x silkie. Other cream legbar x silkie....the volume of silkie traits makes incredibly high odds against not having silkie on both sides, but the mint green says could be pure legbar on the one side....or silkie x legbar on one side and pure golden cochin on the other (feather pattern says is possible). Whatever the combo was, she was pure beauty.
If I can, I want to try working towards a similar mix in the future. Morinths and Nyxes and Samaras. We know how I like cochins and silkies. :)

You did the right thing. Aggression towards chicks is not tolerated. We put Kasumi down because she tried to kill a chick too.

I am mad at him. So mad he had me in tears after what I did sunk in.

I am mad that for so long he showed such promising behaviors. I am mad he made me fall for him. I am mad he made me do something that I have only had to do once before. I am mad I miss him already.

Randy, Darn it. You were changing my views on game roosters in a mutli-rooster flock. I am so sorry about this evening.

Do not go down the woulda coulda shoulda path.

You gave him a lovely life, better than he would have ever had elsewhere. You need to protect the rest of the flock, that includes George and wee Turkey. Next Spring you will have more chicks to worry about, you cannot have him terrorizing the hens and babies.

You did the only humane thing - passing off to someone else could have meant him suffering as a fighting bird, or maybe not being cared for properly.

Go easy on yourself, remember - he had a good life with you. It could have been far worse for him.
