There are always exceptions to the rule like Redwoods, Oaks & Pines in more moderate or colder northern climates where trees can survive 100's or 1000's of years but in our southern climate of brutal heatwaves, water restrictions, & smaller land properties tree life is iffy for us. Cactus, Palm trees (ugh) or succulents are becoming the plants of choice. You're aware we removed all lawn to pave both our front & back yards w/ stonework?

If the hens didn't need shady foliage we wouldn't have planted ANY trees at all. We give our fruit trees a 30-yr or less lifespan. Maybe even after we no longer have chickens we may remove them altogether. We're tired of summer water restrictions.

I knew a lady that had land passed down too her through her family for generations. It was once a working farm.

On this land was a plumb and apple tree. The victorian plumb, was well over 40 or fifty years old and likely more. But she had no interest in it. This did upset me.

It got a fungal growing at the trunk and to my knowledge it could have been easily remedied, but not caring she chose to do nothing about it.

I don't know about the apple tree the apples were sour and used for making cider.
My thoughts on this was at the time, when some people get something passed down they don't fully appreciate it's value.

She eventually sold up and left. But that neglect of this tree really bugged me.

Her parents and maybe even her grandparents cared about that lovely tree and the delicious victorian plumbs are barley seen in our shops and markets anymore. They used to be in an abundance here in UK :(

So it makes me wonder how many idol asses have neglected these beautiful fruit trees, all because it was given to them so easily 🤔.

I ran into it the hard way with Storm (Blue laced Red wyandotte (very light, turned out to be splash laced) x olive egger (barred, no crest)) being solid blue, with a crest...then again the following year with Lark and Indigo (blue). How did Cheetah (orange and black with white down and blue legs) produce them from Blanche and PITA (splash)? Thing got me my first exposure into "black split to_______". Again Cheetah crossed with black and white mottled makes WHAT?! Solid BLACK?! How?:idunno:caf (head sctatching):caf:confused::caf:th:he:barnie:caf became the mental process.

I do find it fascinating that the black split to mottled can have the mottled bleed through the black with adult moults.

Makes me wonder if the split to lavender can moult out at least partially lavender at around the 3+ age mark....

And how many different "split to_______" types there are....
Do you still have any Thing offspring?

I would love to have some Houdan ♥️ I can get them from Performance here in Ontario. But straight run and min of 5. My luck it would be 5 Roos.

I’ll say blue because I so want that for you, and maybe it’s possible she’s some kind of different legbar! But I’d prefer two choices, blue or a beautiful white.
She could have Orpington in her, given the color. Of the three BO’s here, only Tedi best matches the classic low rider body shape with big booty fluff. Annie is quite slender front to back (which I wondered is due to her illness where she got behind on growing). Diane is slightly bigger, in between each.
