TY TY TY!!! It went well as an out-patient. We got home from the hospital after 5:00 p.m. & the hens had dutifully put themselves away. Dana on the perch gave DH a good scolding for not being home to do his nightly escort to the coop!

Yay. So glad to hear it went well. Some of us were worried about you.

I'm so relieved you are home. I thought you were going in for a long stay.

:hugshere's another hug.

Yep, never know w/hospital surgeries if you survive them or not for any unforseen reason. Old age :old always make the surgeons & anesthesiologists nervous too but I was out the same day. The anesthetic made me sicker than the surgery!

Birds have vet surgeons for their bone issues but is there insurance for chickens? The hospital staff were intrigued w/ our having chickens 🐓!

Oh, that's so sad :(...
When they have health issues I seem to draw nearer to them hoping their life is quality. Yeah, heartbreak but the sweetie had quite an extended life for having issues ❤️
She was a ticking time bomb...and I'm surprised she lived as long as she did. (That independent streak) only Pippa lays larger eggs, and she's twice the size Twirp was. Twirp was even smaller than Lark and Indigo, my Hamburg cross ladies.

She was a small hen...just never know how long a bird will live. Someone had a Cornish Cross that never grew like the others so she was set aside but never grew more. She turned out to be one of their best layers. Genetics inherited? Who can know?

It was 8° F when I got up... down to 7° now. The hair in my nostrils was covered with frost and stuck together with two breaths when I walked Freya this morning.

I wonder if the chickens knew it would get this cold? Button, my last hen to molt, had been sleeping in a nest box (allowed when they're molting). Last night at lock up, I saw her next to a Bielefelder on the roost.

Hazel sleeps like that too, spilling her breast feathers over the nest box edge. Maybe part of their crop is on the edge, maybe they like the support or something. If I can get a picture I will, usually the Spuds are right near her blocking the camera.
