I took Xzit out and brought Blue in. I have to think of her too, because she’s so blue! image.jpg

Next stages of preparation for the Arctic blast are underway. Hope they are more successful than wrapping the metal bracket!
Daytime warming station is set up but not yet switched on. It is relatively warm today. Believe it or not I managed to get the cord safely into the human area using chopsticks to run it through a small gap in the framing of the hospital/brooder box.
I will add food in that area and an open waterer which they do prefer to the one with nipples that I have on the heated stand.

Next up is proof of concept for the hanging umbrellas. I figured how to hang them (I have three in total) and I sat outside with the umbrella open feeding the Princesses sunflower seeds. Hopefully they won’t freak out when they see it and refuse to go in the hen house. It isn’t quite in the right place but I had an easy attachment in place so thought I would try it out. To get it in the place over where they sleep will require me to toss some rope over the collar ties but I need to take a lunch break first.
I think it looks rather jolly. I realize that I have not thought about how to get it down again!

Gosh I like those umbrellas - very Mary Poppins 🥰

I am hopeful that it helps with the retention of the heat.

I know! Given that I don’t know how to get it down I guess it might become a decorative fixture until I have help with a ladder on the slope. Not really safe using ladders given the slope but with two people it is manageable.
I really like them, but how did you open them?

Back story is:
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Department raided and stopped a cock fighting ring last week ( good for them!) due to the APB being out on my rooster Rudy, they were swift to take notice of a rooster that didn’t look like a fighter.
I asked the watch commander to take a picture of the rooster in question. No return to my request as of yet
Oh no! Poor Roo! He must have been used as the trainer 😢😢😢

Gosh what horrible people doing such things. Making animals fight for our entertainment is crude and horrid.

Let them fight each other…..

I think I will remove that door. Getting tired of poopy door knobs!

I was told the last week of February is generally when chicks start showing up.
I also asked the family friend about her fibro hen, but she doesn't know what color egg she lays or even if she's laying. Hopefully she does and I can hatch a baby from her.
I will have a fibro chicken, goshdangit.
I really hate it when you use such vulgarity! :D
