@BY Bob if it isn't too difficult personally, could you post some pictures of Sylvie and Legertha, Betty, & Phyllis? I know I need more chickens like I need a hole in my head - especially at this point with everything going on - but I do want to order more chickens this spring - and polish are soooooo alluring.

Given I don't want high product breeds, and am good with broodies - but it is just too cold here, especially with my set-up, for silkies.....they might be a good option

I cannot recommend them enough. They have the activity and curiosity of a leghorn and in my experience are not fearful of humans. They are sweet chickens and decent layers of medium white eggs.

Penelope

Last night I was up and out to the barn at midnight checking on her she was beak breathing. I assessed her as having ascitis.

Tonight I drained approx 200ml of straw coloured serous fluid from her abdomen (oooo I still remember all the terminology - once a Nurse always a Nurse ha!). She was a good girl and just stood there while I siphoned off all that excess fluid.

Then I gave her some Tylenol and put her back in the hen house on a thick bed of shavings as she was still draining from the area I inserted the needle. It will likley drain overnight and once the pressure is relieved the needle puncture will heal over.

Getting old is hard work!

The fluid was clear so I am not worried about any infection, not like Sophia who’s draining a were a horrible green colour. She had a 2 week dose of amoxicillin for that and she has been doing well since then.

Your animals are so fortunate to have your
nursing skills ❣️ I remember amoxicillin was used for one of my respiratory infections.

Are the 'cillins-related antibiotics for general body infections or are they for specific infections? What can tetracyclines be used for?

Thank you❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love the photo of Gucci reading the sign! Thank you for these - I had forgotten about some of them.

I also like the one of ?Enzo? Davis? with Gucci!

And Betty looks like she was ready for the cat walk when a big wind burst came out of nowhere!! 🤭🥰🤭🥰

Thank you for the wonderful photos - brings me down memory lane - they are all so gorgeous - and clearly proud birds, too.

I do love that they are both friendly and independent (one of the reasons I love my DCs is their independence - though they AREN't friendly/cuddly birds - just the opposite - though they aren't mean, either.)
