Figured out the problem with the small incubator. Says in the instructions that it is automatically set, but I had to manually set it and now it is at the proper temperature and humidity.
On the plus side, I no longer need to rush to tractor supply to get a new incubator.

Jubilees! Orpingtons are near and dear to my heart. I no longer have them but these were my cuties. A wonderful breed well worth the extra cost. You will not regret adding them to your flock. The chocolates are every bit as special as the jubilee’s. Can’t wait to see them.

Woke up at 3.28am it was frosty

It amazes me how ANY tree survives snow country winters. What's your growing zone number? Our zone is good for most citrus & a number of tropicals.

Zone 4 (maybe 5 if in a sheltered area).

Many trees require a freeze cycle in order to set the buds of leaves and fruit. And many trees (and plants) need snow cover to protect the ground from freezing too deep, protect the roots.

I fear my rhododendrons will be lost, I didn’t wrap them this year and I bet their leaves will be damaged. I have buried them in snow in the past to protect them.

As long as my peach and plum trees don’t flower too early and we don’t get a frost to damage those flowers then should get fruit.

Meanwhile with this miserable weather the chooks are stuck inside and the horses are grumpy - more snow today.

You mentioned zoo's & suddenly AI came to mind. Wonder if any AI going on in those open zoo pens...

The zoo’s here have been careful to keep their birds inside, but I am curious if they are doing anything with regards to water fowl flying into the enclosures - esp the big cats, it’s been documented that if they can they will hunt and kill geese that fly into their areas. The staff have been so k with it as it gives them enrichment and a tasty snack.

Not to mention the public getting to witness the power of them. I say throw a goat in there and see what happens!

It's that time of year. We've had snow up until March some years.

I don't recall cold weather lasting so long in the 70's and eighties but I might be wrong

Many zoo animals have died from HPAI, namely big cats like tigers and lions. It's very sad

I need to find my brooder and set it up... -20 C temps outside make it pretty difficult. With some gloves I might be able to find it, but for some reason I don't remember where I put it last year. Nobody's pipped yet (as I've expected) and I'm going to candle them again soon. Get ready for baby chick pictures.

I’m not sleeping much. Too much on my mind. Coco is probably annoyed by me petting her this early in the morning. I’m sure that I will have plenty of time to sleep when I’m dead.

Get on it in every way possible. By that I mean medically as we know it and the alternatives

There's drugs being triailed again that was dismissed. And apparently they will testing them again. I hope so anyway
