Rosie laid her first egg if the year! I don't think she has laid this early since her first year with us. Especially funny since we had snow and ice this week. Pretty wonderful for an almost 8 year old chicken!
So many beautiful eggs!

What a wonderful gift!

Well I am home today. Diner is closed.

Everyone pray, please pray for just about all of Kentucky. There is going to be some major flooding happening over the next 24 hours. Our ground is saturated after pretty much 2 weeks of snow and rain. It is a monsoon out there. I'm already flooded in on both sides of the main road in and out. All I can do is watch the creek and take action if needed to save the horses. 4 to 6 inches if not more in some area's this afternoon and into tonight. We simply cannot handle that much.

My normally calm and lazy creek....

Oh no. Just one more thing. I surely hope you get a nice calm summer. Stay safe!

A Valentine's Night Surprise.
I was standing in the kitchen. The house is silent.
I hear something hitting the cabinets. What could it be? A ghost? A animal?
It was none of those.
My stomach tells me what happened.
It was a earthquake.
My chooks were terrified. CC's, not so much. I had to go pick them up, cuddle them, and pop them in their coop.

If I was in California I wouldn't care. Earthquakes are standard there. But El Paso? No. We shouldn't get any. It's terrifying to think that the mointain fault line could be waking up.
We are actually almost on a fault line! I was so asleep I didn't feel it, haha😅

Weekly Synopsis of chicken news
For the week ending Feb 15, 2025

Last week's synopsis was brought to you by @knoturavggrl.

With many of us still sitting up to our ears in snow, some of our feathered friends are anticipating spring.
Some chickens are starting back after their winter. There are beautiful rainbow egg baskets. And first eggs! And a gift from a lovely older lady.
Even some of @RoyalChick's freeloaders got in on the action.

***
@BY Bob

Shared Aurora's driving ambitions
And Aurora herself has taken the time to respond to an Ask Aurora from @Themellowyellows's hen, Peaches.

Aster it seems is a snow bird, I wonder if she could be trained to use a shovel?

Bob reminded us of the contract terms with the IFLC and @RoyalChick gave tribute to one of the IFLC's shop stewards.

***
@bgmathteach

Shared some knowledge on Avian Influenza from her Vet Tech course.

***
@ChicoryBlue

Big hugs to Chicory who shared this update

***
@featherhead007

Is building a new coop, and shared an update on Nacho and her chicks who seem to be integrating well. Certainly Mr Wyandottey seems to think they are part of his tribe

***
@Ponypoor

Lost poor Petunia and had a nasty scare - I am hoping no further news here is good news.
In good news however, she shared an update on Bert.

***
@Marie2020

Shared a BFTP with pictures of her lovely ladies

***
@SimpleJenn

Has started the journey back to chickens, and had an early ooops!
Jenn is keeping us posted on progress, and honestly I am not sure I can cope with the stress of it!
They are just moving when suddenly they get overtaken by newcomers who are too cute for words

***
@TOMTE

🤣🤣🤣🤣 (this is a 'must see'- words fail me!)

***
@ValerieJ

We are happy to see Valerie back visiting FBA. She needs help counting her chickens, even though they line up just like Kelly's do (best photos ever!).

As always, apologies if I missed anything and if I messed up the links (I am still learning how to do these links).

OMGosh!

Please be very careful, maybe you should just move the horses and all now while it’s light 😳

How about the chooks? Can you move them if need be?

That's how they tackled the hornworms on the tomato plants over the summer. Some of those suckers were as big around as my thumb 😆 one of the girls (Aliss I think) nabbed the biggest one out of my hand through the snow fence in the split second that I wasn't watching her, and she tore off at top speed to the other side of the garden where she started to smack it against the ground over and over, at which point the others realized she had something good and then they were chasing her around, tearing off chunks of big, juicy caterpillar :sick :gig

I felt so bad for it because I was GOING TO keep it in my critter container to pupate over winter... Well, at least its death was (relatively) quick
Ya - I was thinking glad I am not a frog when my kiddos killed the wee thing!
