Gee, I wonder where their favorite places to scratch are...

Today or tomorrow hopefully we'll put the snow fence back up, give them a (relatively) safe area to roam around in so I don't have to herd them around and have anxiety sweats while they're out in the yard 🤣

Saw the red-shouldered hawk pair mating again yesterday evening while the girls were out. Luckily they're very vigilant and they spotted the hawks long before I did (I've never heard such loud caution trills!), and I don't think the hawks were interested in trying for the chickens anyway. But they're always watching.

Happy Pi-day Friday!
Mr. Marble has a houseguest. I am borrowing a Buff Orpington hen from a family friend to cheer him up.

When I first introduced them. He didn't want to get out of bed this morning.

Just about 10 minutes ago. They are walking together and he's shown her the food and water bowls. She is supposedly laying so we might have a few fresh eggs.

I must think of a good gift for the friend for letting me borrow a hen! Maybe a crochet buff orpington?
Awwww - that is really adorable - he was just lonely. So glad he is enjoying some company and hopefully also getting to know your little ones. Or at least the bigger little ones.

I tell people this all the time, chickens are social animals. 1 chicken alone is never an optimal solution. I'm just glad she was able to get him a friend before he started to have health issues which can occur as a result of loneliness.

That’s nice temps when it’s not raining…. But damp when it is. I think the chooks should be fine, the babies are who I would worry about. They are smaller, but hopefully they can snuggle together for warmth.

I have always found that they handle cooler weather better than hot weather, of course extremely cold is another thing. But thankfully it’s warming up out there!

If you get a chance post a photo of Nacho ♥️
