What's funny is that the bottom hen doesn't seem to mind :D
That’s because she is the one that crawled under Muffy!

Poor Muffy was not at all impressed.

What is wrong with Poooh?
Since her molt she has some feathers on each side that seem to be growing in the wrong direction and sticking out. Kind of below her shoulders on each side.
What’s that all about?

That’s like Rose’s tail feathers - I thought they were damaged and would grow in normally next moult - but when she moulted a few months ago they came back in twisted and sticking out still - and added two more to the inventory!!

Interesting. Can you post a picture when you get a chance. Just curious as it obviously doesn’t bother Pooh at all.

Ok so I do not remember you mentioning the Great Silkie Escape.

Can’t find it here either….
That is because I have not had a second to mention it.

The "Great Silkie Escape" happened Sunday afternoon.

I went out knowing I had to refill their waterer. I should have been ready for a stampede but I was not. The second I barely opened up the door Barbosa led the charge. I spun to catch him as he went between my legs and ended up knocking the door wide open in the process allowing them all out in a flash. They scattered in all directions. George was was in the midst of it in a split second. All I could do was snatch him up before he finished his rooster dance towards one of the girls. Thankfully he dances first and then hops on to breed, he was not successful. George was carried to the other coop and locked in, very unhappily I might add poor boy. The silkies are everywhere, in the creek, the stalls and sawdust pile by now. I gave in and went ahead and filled the feeder, water and raked out the coop and then proceeded to round them up. 30 minutes, I was herding cats*silkies* for 30 minutes. Barbosa, who was being called Hector at this point was the last to be wrangled.

I have since learned, refill the feeder, waterer and rake out the coop at night. They are asleep and do not rush the door.

Brats, they are brats.

OK catch me up ~ what breed is Lily? I think of lilies as white? I love love love black chickens.
Lilly is one of my Black Copper Marans. She is one of my originals Daisy's Great-Granddaughter. The speckles and splotches were a trade mark of hers and those stemming from her have all inherited that. Those stemming from Holly, dark solid colored eggs.

Lets start out with the pictures from inside the silkie hut.

Everybody except Poppet and the tiny terrorist Turkey are roosting on the little roost I made for them. Poppet and Turkey, are sleeping on top of the orange nesting box. I'm calling this a win though as previously NONE of them would roost.

Hector Barbosa, you little devil. You almost succeeded in another escape attempt. I cannot stay mad at him, look at that face.

Hello Patsy you pretty little girl

Now that Barbosa is fully relaxed around me and not on high alert at all times he is a nicely put together cockerel.

Look at the back of Barbosa's neck, he could be Clyde's brother from another mother.

Davy is also gorgeous. Truthfully, both boys will compliment my girls. I am definitely going to do a hatch for myself this spring from them. I think I will start collecting for myself the last week of April and set them May 1st. My turner holds 48 eggs. I doubt I will fill it full, but we shall see what happens.

Martina, I'm so thankful all 6 turned out to be pullets. Branch and Poppet's daughter's are each so different, so pretty and if there had been multiple boys, I could not have chosen who to keep. I love every single one of them.View attachment 4072416View attachment 4072417View attachment 4072418View attachment 4072419View attachment 4072420View attachment 4072421View attachment 4072422View attachment 4072423View attachment 4072427Look who is back to laying. Another one I have to watch out for on being broody.

The Tiny Terrorist may be wild, but oh is she ever pretty. I will win you over you little demon.

Every time I see your Moorhead Partridges (like Patsy) or Silver Partridge (Poppet) I see our girls. This breed is so amazing!
