Mr Wyandottey is lazy tonight. He’s already perched for bed, but there’s still four ladies in the yard digging up worms. He’s not escorting them back into the coop, he’s only crowing at them (but hey if it works) :idunno
Roo, don’t make me go out there and do your job!!
Mission accomplished. Everyone accounted for. I locked up the coop, but I’m not sticking around for the evening drama.

That's the ladies time. The guys head in early (Shad's observations)

Pippi, my favorite rooster ever, would never go into the coop until all the hens were in. No exceptions. I watched him chase them around their yard to get them in from time to time. Cooper was pretty good at it too, but Ralphie is not so dedicated to the job. Cooper learned from Pippi, but Ralphie didn't pick up on the program at all.

My guys aren't the first into the coop either. They go in with some of their hens (a hen or 2 first), then head back out to check on the others. When most are in and the stragglers (of "their" girls) are right outside, they go in...and head back out if the girls really loiter or move off too far from the hatch.

Inside the coop, they point out the feed (and sometimes the water), nibble once the girls are, then move to the roost. They mostly settle unless a squabble breaks out with the ladies. Then they make a sound similar to the tidbitting call, but LOTS louder. They also make the sound when Sherlock comes out for a walk. I translate it as "disgruntled GET OVER HERE AND SETTLE DOWN" or "If you make me have to come over there..."

Mr P only roosts with his favourite girls - the rest are on their own it seems!

Soooooo

Today I was looking at Fluffy admiring her new feathers and how fluffy she was when I started to compare her to Marty and Georgie with their feathers.

Is it my imagination or is Fluffy also a frizzle? It was her neck feathers that got me thinking, they are not as smooth and straight flowing down her neck like Marty and Georgie. The flip up like Clyde’s feathers. Just shorter and thicker. And her wing feathers are different. Georgie oh wait no Marty…. Ya Marty - she and Georgie are getting hard to tell apart, I really think Georgie is Marty’s baby.

See what I mean about the feathers?? So if she is indeed a frizzle then she is the silkie feather version unlike Curly who has the regular feather version… 😳

And if so it’s good I find out now so I don’t get any ideas on getting eggs from her with Clyde!

Who knew raising chickens could be so complicated!
I think you are right, Fluffy is a frizzle. My question is this. How has nobody, not even yourself caught that yet? Years worth of pictures of Fluffy and she just now starts looking all frizzly?

I am now 100% ok with George not being a frizzle. Frizzle's just cause headaches that I do not need, especially after learning that the silkied feather texture can also be a frizzle.

I will admire Curly, Betty, Clyde and now Fluffy from afar and secretly want them but never act on that wish.

I also think you are right on Georgie being Marty's daughter. I so desperately wanted the Marty eggs to be fertile last spring. I will forever be Marty's #1 fan. Maybe not this year, but, at some point please let Georgie hatch her own chicks to keep Marty's bloodline going.

Currently Clyde can only safely breed and hatch from Marty and Georgie and possibly Holly and Jolly who I am leaning towards pullets.

I know it is a chance to have frizzles pop up, but Clyde the terrible crossed with Marty or Georgie....a girl can dream.

I have heard the sound you are talking about, the loud tidbitting, but also a little like a growl, from Pippi. So cute. You cannot beat a good rooster.
