So far i have had two ducks taken by a fox in my neighborhood. The first was one of my two young muscovies back in November or December, and just yesterday one of my welshies (one of the 2 first ducks i ever got) was taken and she would have been 2 years old on September 5th. I think of my ducks and geese as pets and it’s hearbreaking that this keeps happening. There’s no evidence of her having been taken it’s like she just disappeared. With the muscovy, he had flown out and a neighbor saw the fox with him. But i have no idea how my welshie would’ve gotten out (occasionally they will mysteriously get out but i have since patched any holes in the fence) and there’s no sign of a struggle anywhere so i’m not even sure if it was a fox that took her. the fences are about 5 feet tall and i’ve take several precautions to keep this from happening such as spreading human hair about 5 feet from the fence all the way around and keeping the back lights on at night (even though they are locked securely in their shed). I think they’re being taken in the morning and during the day though, because I always see them when I let them out in the morning and when I put them in at night (i noticed both missing during the day, i always count them when i let them out and when i put them in). Does anyone know what else I should be doing? I know the fox took the muscovy but do any of you know what might’ve taken the welshie or if it was the fox as well? I just want my babies to be safe.
