Okay, a couple of months ago we had a Fox problem. The fox chased away our chickens (most of them) and killed a couple, so we got rid of her. But she was pretty skinny, and now we have another fox. We're guessing it's the Son or Daughter of the fox we previously had. Because the fox looks young, Anyway. Like a month ago, the same fox. Killed one of our chickens and also chased away a lot, we haven't seen that fox for about a month. So we assumed somebody relocated it or something, Now. Today, the same fox came back. Killed one of our chickens. and chased one off. A Couple days before this, I noticed the 3 silkie chicks we had. That we got in September were gone. I assumed they were sleeping behind the garbage can or somewhere else in the coop. Even though they weren't in the Nest or behind the Garbage can, so I left it be. A Day went past without seeing them, so I got worried. Today, about 5 or 7 minutes after the attack. Me and my German Shepard dog went out to go look for the 3 Silkies, Simba (a hen that I noticed Today, that was gone) and a younger chicken that got chased off during the attack. So we went in the woods, My dog sniffed. Cheese it (a silkie chick) dead, and then she sniffed out the younger chicken that got scared away during the attack. Alive, we went back out again later Today. Looking for the other 2 Silkie Chicks, Simba and the Fox's Den, But we had no Luck. The whole reason I'm telling this, is because we've been trying to get rid of this fox for about 2 months now. My friend said that Foxes don't like strong scents and it will drive them off, and I searched it up. And it said that strong scents like Vinager will drive them away, or Pepper (idk if It was pepper, but it was something like that). And I think one was Chilli Powder? I told my Parents that and said that Vinager does kill the grass (I knew this, just forgot). And that would be too much Pepper, Chilli Powder or whatever it was to put around the Yards edges. Anyone have any Tips?

Things they don't like such as strong scents will work as long as the foxes have better alternatives.

"Better" includes more than just another food source somewhere. It includes the location compared to the other things of the fox's range, what deterrents there are to the other sources, how tasty/easy-to-get the other sources are, etc.

The longer a given deterrent is used, the less effective it is as the fox learns more about it. Except good, maintained fences don't become less effective over time.

Look around and try to see if you can find her den. If you do try to put a new sent in it a different one then it won't have its sent there and have to move. This is what we did when we had a fox it worked like a charm. It doesn't matter what smell but you need to cover the den in it. You should watch your chickens for awhile and see if the fox comes that way you can scare it or try to catch it or chase it to its den then you can find it.

Hope this helps! Also sorry about your chickens!😰

We haven't had time to build a run, but we're working on it

Where I live, Free Range Chickens = Free Chicken Dinner. I keep my chickens in a fenced in chicken run during the daytime and lock them up in a Fort Knox coop at night.

I don't worry about a fox digging underneath my chicken run fence, because I lock the girls up at night in a predator proof coop. I have never seen a fox snooping around my coop or run during the daytime.

If you are concerned that a fox might attempt to dig underneath the chicken run fence, you could maybe dig out a trench about 18 inches deep and put wire fencing down that far. I like the concept of just laying down a predator proof apron of about 24 inches of wire on top of the ground around the chicken run fence. That apron sounds like a lot less work, and if it works as well, that is what I would do first.

I imagine a free chicken dinner is pretty tempting for a fox and family. I would expect them to come back for more as long as you have chickens running around. I hope you get a good chicken run built soon and stop the losses.

:caf You might want to contact your local DNR and see if they have a program to capture a nuisance fox or at least give you some advice on trapping one that is killing your chickens. The guys at my local DNR are pretty helpful on stuff like that, but I suppose it all depends on the people working there. Good luck.
