I hatched out 6 fbcm from what I was told were pure birds from a well known hatchery in California. But not all of the chicks look like what they are supposed to. Is it possible for the chicks to be yellow? 2 are yellow, 2 are blue, and 2 seem dark blue if not black. I’ll add a picture of the parents too.

Those do not look like blue french copper marans chicks. They look like Blue/Black/Splash mix. This may be how they maintain their flock of blues. So you may just get blue, black and splash as luck of the draw, and then select out the blue chicks for your blue flock. It's genetically how some blue flocks are maintained, but I don't recall if it applies to all blue flocks. Something to look into. What you have may be normal.

I'd contact the hatchery and ask them what colors the blue flock of FBCM is supposed to produce from their hatching eggs.

As stated in post #3.. Blue doesn't breed true.. and blue cross blue equals black, blue, and splash.

To get 100% blue offspring, one must breed black to splash. (copper in the case of copper Marans)

Cute chicks! 🥰

Yep. Looks right.

Blue x blue should give 25% black, 50% blue, and 25% splash. You just got a couple less blues than statistically probable.
Oh interesting! I just assumed breeding 2 blues would give me blues. Getting slash is kinda cool! It will be exciting to see them grow and feather out.

Awesome thank you for that info! Color genetics are so cool!
