Frizzled Bantam Cochin

Such a cutie!!! I still think boy, sadly. But you could definitely keep him until there’s a problem! Maybe he won’t crow for awhile.

There are also ways to be considerate of sleeping neighbors. I have kept roosters in city limits by just putting them in a cardboard box with shavings every night and not letting them out until about 9:00 am. That way they aren’t crowing early. Or you can definitely find him another good home. Such a cutie, someone will want him for sure!
He has been raised in the house at least he will be friendly, he runs up to the cage door everytime he sees us , Im going to check with our 4H group he would be awesome , he comes from show quality lines so hopefully ....
My neighbors are the type to complain and I dont want to draw attention then have a problem that I have a few more birds than are known 🙄 I have even tried giving them fresh eggs, they dont eat eggs

Can be an unpopular opinion but you can try no crow collars, they worked really well for all three of my cockrels, they are much quieter

Oh I am so sorry you have problem neighbors 😥 That is such a bummer. And does make it very hard to keep one. Checking with the 4H group is such a great idea though!!!

I tried the no crow collar on my bantams and they didn’t work. After reading reviews I think I didn’t have them on tight enough. The hardware cloth I ordered on Amazon is arriving tomorrow- someone on Reddit made one out of it and zip ties and it works by restricting the movement of the neck rather than preventing air to create crowing.

Wow please let us know how it works for you! I found the post showing what the collar looks like, and it looks like it could be a great solution for some people.

I will, I contacted the person I got the cutie from , she agreed its suspicious, hopefully another hatch soon and I will try again, were going to wait just a little longer to be sure because it breaks my heart

Yes in the other post he says it was 8 squares by 20 for his roo which looks like a New Hampshire red. Mine are polish, they appear to be around that size. It’s supposed to arrive today but hasn’t yet, I’ll probably make it today if DH can hold the baby that long then put it on one of the roosters before making a second one

The other post.

I got the gorilla tape but lost my wire cutters. DH says I can use kitchen scissors…we will see. Just waiting on the hardware cloth.

The guy seemed to allow the public to make it themselves but also mentioned possibly marketing it…if he sees this post and wants me to remove then I’ll happily do so. In the meantime hopefully the links can help us get more insight as to whether Velcro or hardware collars are more effective or at least less fatal. Since Velcro collars have been around for years roosters have died from being choked but have not yet heard of anyone else using the hardware one except the guy that made the post.

I think it’s so cool that you found this and that the guy was willing to share. Maybe you should make a post about your experiment with it?? I bet lots of people would be interested in it. If you do, post the link here so I can follow it!
