fuzzi's Chicken Journal

Rahab was out with the others this afternoon, but she's back in the box for the night.
:fl

Rahab was the hen who raised chicks last year, she did a great job. I'd love for her to hatch the Sussex eggs.

Rahab with her chicks (June 2024)

We tried.
:hugs

Thank you to everyone for recommendations, suggestions, advice.

When I found her about 11am she was still warm, but definitely gone. I checked under her wing. No smell, no discharge, nothing to indicate a problem.

There's an old expression "The treatment was a success, but the patient died". How true. :(

Tamar died sometime between 6am and 11am.

She was lowest in the pecking order, but still managed to be a broody mom to Joanna (left) & unnamed cockerel last year.
I am so sorry to hear the news. She was still a lucky little hen. So many don't get to experience motherhood; I feel especially bad when I lose a hen that lacked the instinct or just missed the opportunity. And of course, you kept her cozy and as safe as possible. Her legacy to the flock will go on. ❤️

And while 2 years is not that old, for many it's a milestone.

I'm sorry to hear it. She was a sweet girl and a good mother. It sounds like she was very active right up to the end.
Yes. She didn't seem overly interested in eating yesterday, but did scarf a few BOSS. She slept in the nesting box, that's where I saw her at 6am, very much alive. That's where I found her, around 11.
