I have a couple of questions about giving my flock some scrambled eggs. Since mornings are getting cold.

1. My flock is molting right now and I was thinking about mixing in the eggshells with the scrambled eggs. Should I not do that for a molting flock?
2. Usually when making scrambled eggs, I use butter for it not to stick to the pan. Can the chickens have that tiny bit of butter?

Hi
I do that exact same thing and give it to all of mine at least once a week (2 hens have been going through a molt) and they love it! It hasn’t done mine any harm.

Yes…Although I make sure I either cook the shells (in the micro) or I wash them and rinse them thoroughly. At most I give them it twice a week unless they are sick and not eating.

The butter issue - such small amounts won't hurt, but it's another reason why I choose to boil eggs for my girls. It means a little more work for me, in peeling & chopping, but simpler ingredients for them. And then I can put the shells in a side trough for them, for those who need it.

I give my flock scrambled eggs quite often as I find my ducks lay, like, insane amounts of eggs. I find I have too many, so I boil them and feed them to my dogs, and I scramble them for the flock. I don't use butter, nor do I add shells. I have a rooster and 3 pullets who aren't yet in lay. And they stopped laying because all my laying hens are molting. Every. Last. One. No need for extra calcium.

I crush the shells from the boiled eggs and leave them free choice on the side, though, along with oyster.

I boil my eggs. Whilst still warm, I don’t bother peeling them. I crush the entire egg on a chopping board, with a potato masher. Takes seconds and the entire egg, shell and all goes to the hens.
