I just learned one of my other four month old chickens is a rooster and now I’m wondering about this one too. Is this Golden Laced Polish a rooster or a hen? It’s harder to tell with these guys. I can’t have a rooster so I will need to rehome the chicken if it is.

That is without a doubt a rooster. Pointy hackle and saddle feathers. Also the dark red shoulder and wispy thin pointed crest feather.
Can I ask why this one and the other one I just learned is a rooster do not have their wattles yet? That was the part that was throwing me off. I can’t believe we ended up with two roosters in this batch when they were sexed! 🤦‍♀️

It's a bearded Polish.

It’s the beard. Bearded varieties don’t grow wattles to the size of the non-bearded varieties and what little wattles they do have are hidden by the beard.

Thank you. This guy who is a wheaten Maran also doesn’t have a waffle yet but he’s huge and a rooster. He is also four months. Do they come in later with some chickens?

I should say, he has one but it’s much smaller than expected for a rooster.

I wouldn’t say his comb and wattles are actually that small for only being 4 months old. He has plenty of time for his comb and wattles to grow in. Over the next couple of months they should really start to pop. Some do show up bigger and larger than others at first, but it’s just like humans with puberty and growth. One brother could be 6’ at 14 years old while his full brother was only 5’8 at 14 years old and didn’t grow to be 6’ until he was almost 20.
