Opinions on roosters or hens please

Those little fluff butts are adorbale!! 😍
But your wyandottes are for sure Golden laced Wyandottes, I had a few a couple years ago in my first batch along with many other varieties.
Thank you! I knew other people would admire them hehe.
Right?! The lady wrote them down as silver laced, but I am failing to see the silver! I can see one has no gold on it's wing tips just yet though? but both their bodies and colours everywhere else are very similar. I actually love the waiting game to see what they're going to grow up to look like! :)

Lol yes, they are very beautiful birds indeed!
I'm glad your enjoying them, they are very sweet birds. And yes, I agree with you, if they were the "silver" laced variety you would see more white than that almost dark copper, but all in all their going to grow up beautifully, best of luck!

You’re totally right! It would’ve been cool if I had one of each as I had originally asked 🤪 i have such a random bunch and I love it.

So total guess but I'm going with cockerel for the silkie.

You have a totally adorable group of chicks!
Omggg noo way. You may be right! I had another silkie and it was a pale white/lavender but it died two days ago 😭😭 it was half the size of this emu looking one! I really hope it’s not because I’d love to keep a silkie!

I'm so sorry you lost one :hit silkies can be a little finicky, they do best with a little extra vitamins in their feed (or Poultry Cell added to their water, I do this every other day the first week, then cut back).

My cockerel guess is solely based on the more upright stance. Most of my boys will do this, although some pullets do as well. I had a chick this fall, not a silkie, but based on coloration and behavior the breeder and I thought it was a cockerel, nope, it was a pullet with the feather coloring typical of a cockerel in that breed :gig

Thank you. It was super sad I felt horrible. I had vitamins in their water too! So hard.

Ohhh, thank you for your explanation, do only the boys do this? This one was being a sook as I took it out for a photoshoot and it was standing tall to look and chirp for its friends (I mean, I could be interpreting it wrongly 🤪)

Well, if it was "under duress" maybe it's not so telling then :lau I've had some very obvious boys, they're always running around really upright, they'll run up to my hand, always curious and little pests, we'll keep hoping it's a pullet!

And I should mention, sometimes there's nothing you can do to save them. If they had a development issue in the egg, a temperature fluctuation at a bad time maybe or just a fluke. But it's always sad nonetheless.
