Yes, this is a weird topic and I wasn't sure where else to post it but it is always helpful to have a normal reference when dealing with the abnormal, say you post your own dead bird and don't have a clue what it is supposed to look like. I had to cull a naughty hen and instead of just tossing her on the BBQ I took a few pictures of what an apparently healthy adult female currently laying coturnix quail looks like a few minutes post mortem. The view is from the dorsal (top) of the bird looking down, the spine has been removed (spatchcocked, visible in one picture) and one is the repro tract and the next is the same picture with the tract removed. The crop came away with the neck so isn't pictured. The liver is actually a beige color which I thought was interesting, assuming livers (avian or mammalian) were typically liver colored, curious!

The repro tract is just amazing!

Repro tract and most of the small intestine is now gone so you can see the stuff beneath it. The lungs are a lot darker pink than mammalian lungs (not red!) and there are some blood clots (the dark red lumps on the right side of the picture) visible. Note the beige color of the liver (per USDA website this is normal in poultry!). The oviduct is the large worm looking thing at the top of the picture. Pretty cool (or disgusting, depending on how much of a geek you are!)
