8 weeks ago, we selected a chick from the bin labeled only "Cukoo Marans" at Tractor Supply. The chicks were a little older (larger than ones in the other bins and just starting to get some true feathers). The chicks in this bin were two fairly distinct shades of grey/black, and the lighter ones had fairly obvious headspots. So we selected one from the darker/no-headspot group, as this typically points to female.
Well 8 weeks later, this is definitely not a Cukoo Maran, right? Which means, the two color "groups" in that bin at tractor supply may not have been an indicator of gender at all, and the darker ones could have all been a different Maran entirely (from the collar, I'm assuming Black Copper?), male or female.
All that to say:
Is there any chance this is not a rooster??
