My 2 year old pet hen, Jewel, just got caught by a dog. Her side is badly cut and is bleeding. I have flour, honey, and Vetericyn.
Should I coat her wound with Vetercyn and flour? Anyone is can help is greatly needed and appreciated.

I'm sorry about your hen.

I would not put flour on the wound.

Flush it out really well with the Vetericyn, Saline, Chlorhexidine, Betadine or even warm soapy water (rinse well if using soap/water).

The bleeding should stop on it's own, it's more important to get it flushed out. Trim the feathers away from the wound so it will stay cleaner. Once you've cleaned the wound, apply triple antibiotic ointment to the wound if you have that, if not, then spray with your Vetericyn.

Check her over very carefully for any other cuts/wounds that may be hidden under the feathers. (Check all sides and underneath her).

Work her through shock, she may seem alert now, she's hyper vigilant, but can be shocky.

Give her sugar water (1tsp to 1 cup water) or electrolytes.

Keep her where she can be near the flock, but calm and quiet.

OK, I will do this immediately! Should I cover her wound with a gaze pad to keep bugs away? Thank you so much for this speedy response!
