Well I'm not a trainer or anything but we always let our JRTs work it out for themselves. If you do much to interfere then you always have to interfere and be on your guard which makes the dogs more antsy. Acting unbothered can be the best medicine. And taking food away is fine, but in a neutral manner, not with reprimands or anything.

Jack Russell Terrier's? Had one years ago. Quite the active little guys. Named him Sparky. Very fitting.
